Motorway Driving Lessons

Motorways are statistically the safest roads and are designed to help traffic travel faster to their location. However, the fast-moving flow of traffic and multiple lanes can take a little time to get used to for a driver. The high speeds used on a motorway will mean that the driver must be alert, think, plan 3 steps ahead, not one step ahead and the vehicle must be in good condition Collisions  will often involve many vehicles. We will show how you should drive on a motorway and dual carriageway so that we can travel  safely on them.

Tips to Remember

  • 99.9% of drivers don’t know the Motorway rules of the Road.
  • Our advice is to arrange with your driver instructor who can teach you.
  • Passed your test but never completed any motorway we can help  
  • Going on the motorway for first time training
  • You have passed your test, of course you will be nervous

Motorway driving Lessons:

What do they entail?

We will cover the theory initially the following-layout/designs of motorways and then practice the skills on a number of motorway including driving on and around roundabouts.

Motorway Layout and Design:

We begin with an overview of motorway layouts and designs, helping you understand the structure and flow of these roads.

Signs and Road Markings:

Learn to recognise and correctly interpret signs and road markings that indicate where and how motorway regulations apply.

Appropriate Speed Entry:

Many drivers enter the motorway at speeds well below the appropriate limit. We will guide you on how to safely enter the motorway at the correct speed.

Relative Speeds:

Familiarise yourself with the relative speeds of different lanes and how to adjust your driving accordingly.

Blind Spots:

Understand the dangers of sitting in other vehicles’ blind spots and learn to check your own blind spots when changing lanes.

Lane Changes:

We’ll cover the correct techniques for changing lanes, whether moving to the left or right, including the use of auxiliary lanes and shifting between lanes 1, 2, and 3.

Motorway Signage:

We will thoroughly discuss motorway signage during theory sessions before moving on to practical lessons.

Dual Carriageways:

Training will also include driving on dual carriageways, where different rules and driving dynamics apply.

Dealing with Hazards:

We will cover important topics such as handling collisions, emergency vehicles, hazards, adverse weather conditions (fog, snow, darkness), breakdowns, punctures, and congestion.
